Introduction/ Rational for Project
My topic of the obesity epidemic is significant because it has been increasing dangerously for many years. Since the rates of obesity are going up, many deadly health problems occur before people even know it. Many people these days, think that obesity is caused from people not exercising and not controlling their diet, but the majority of these people are incorrect, due to other reasons. I chose this topic because I feel that people need to be more aware of its increasing problems that can be easily prevented and dominated. Although there is an infinite amount of informational resources about obesity, this topic shows the determination that people have to change these horrific numbers of the amount of different groups being obese.
Many researches show that the rate of obesity has grown about 30% in the last 4 years. The sign that a person is obese is when their BMI is 30 or above. BMI (body mass index) is also known as the large amount of fat content in ones body. I feel that people today don't know enough about the dangers of being obese. Therefore, I chose this topic revolving around the condition of obesity because I want to inform many of my colleagues and peers about these dangers and how they can prevent it and many good things that can come out of it. Some of the dangers that are connected with obesity include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and many other diseases and conditions that are fatal to ones health. These are simple conditions that may happen throughout an obese person's life. These conditions can easily be prevented or even eliminated by proper dieting and proper exercise with healthier habits. Children who are obese while young are at greater risk for long term health problems. Therefore, these deadly dangers should be a wake-up-call for the obese because it will show them the risks that they are taking by not exercising or taking any health precautions. Everyone doesn't have to exercise or eat healthy, but they do have to take precautions to what they are putting into their system. |
